If you decide that you don't need your Gmail account anymore, and you're sure you won't want your username in the future, you can simply close the account. Here's how:
1. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
2. Open the Accounts tab.
3. Click Google Account settings.
4. Click Edit next to My services on the right side.
5. Click Delete Gmail Service.
Once you close your Gmail account, you can't reactivate it, and you won't be able to retrieve any messages.

I know for a fact your msn/hotmail email address will be terminated after inactivity but if you don't delete your account your account name will always be there. You can reactivate your MSN live email.

These companies dont actually provide this much memory to every user. They state that they do, because they know that in fact many users will hardly use about 100mb. The 5gb, or 2gb stroage is just there because they just want people to get lured into their email engine, so they can join and make it more popular. I know hardly anyone who has used their email up to more than 500 mb.

Just got Gmail - after the address it says "me (2)" what does this mean?
Just signed up for a gmail account. A friend sent me an email and I replied. In my inbox, after her address, it says "me (2)."

That there's 2 messages in the conversation.
Gmail doesn't organize mail like say yahoo mail does. There are no individual messages, and there are no folders.
e-mails are tagged with the subject and type that you give it, and the work more like conversations, when you open one, it'll look more like a chat window. The most recent message will be at the bottom.
And when they reply the message will be bolded again and have "Their name (3)", click on it, and continue the convo.

this is unbelievably annoying - Gmail team thinks that they can deal with our messages better than we do. Why do I think so? because - 1) they (Gmail team) stick all messages together like links of sausages and 2) do not keep original messages separately, 3) they do not allow sorting messages (they offer something called labeling which 4) is even more annoying if you get into it), 5) they do not allow creating new folders so ALL your messages continue piling up in the Inbox.
Most annoying is 6) that they call messages conversations! Like I'm on the phone chatting away ... yeah, right! This is still e-mail, not telephone and I hope will never become one, as they are two completely different types of human interaction. It is called e-MAIL not e-PHONE!
Moreover, they 7) do not show the original format of the messages that arrived in your Inbox - 7.1) they change the date format to show just month and day, without showing the year when the message actually arrived, 7.2) they do not show the details unless you click on (annoying!) link - show detail - so once you get some message in your Inbox, first thing you do, you have to guess: who is this message from? when was it sent? whom was it addressed to, only me or someone else? That annoying -show detail- link is somewhere in a very inconvenient place, so you have to scan the whole screen before you find it....
The whole MAIL concept is lost here. Gmail is not intuitive and requires too much effort and too much human memory involvement to be convenient

It was working fine and then all of a sudden I would get messages that said "Internet Explorer cannot Connect to this website." I can connect to any other pages but nothing google affiliated. I've tried the avg virus scanner. I've tried to reset my internet settings. I've added google to my safe list in privacy settings. I'm not super techy so please give your responses in layman's terms. Yes, there is google talk. It's what I use from work. It's the only one not blocked. You need a google email account. Check to see if you can get an account from google's website, it may be by invitation only, I'm not sure. Then you can download the messenger, or you can chat directly from the email browser.

Go to the GMail page below and report the abuse. Include a copy of the header information in your report then add the person to your blocked senders list.

When you signed up for your Gmail account, you provided an alternate account in case something like this was to ever happen. When you go to the sign in page again, there should be something like "Forgot your password?". Click that, and send your password to the alternate E-mail address. Is there a way to receive mail from my Yahoo! Mail account on my iPhone, but have mail I send (including replies to my Yahoo! Mail messages) go out from my Gmail account?

That is the purpose of website security methods, so you or anyone else can hack into it. Either you somehow remember the gmail password, or you remember the response for the security question. Past that, there are no ways of hacking legally into the account. You may have to make a new account and notify all your contacts that you have changed your email address.

It's just the way the service providers decide to lay out their ads. Google sells more ad space with their mail, Yahoo sells less.

My boss just switched over to Gmail. She suddenly got tons of spam in her spam folder, but plenty of the e-mails were sent from her e-mail account (her new gmail account and the e-mail address she switched from). However, these e-mails didn't appear in her sent folder.
How did this happen, and how can she stop it?

This is possible, especially when your email address has been spoofed. Meaning, someone is using your email account to send spams and, the weird thing here is you have "sent" the spam and receive it. Since "someone" is using your email to send spams, I believe you are receiving a lot of delivery failures too.
If not, as in, you are only receiving spams, you might want to check on the email header, you can do this by looking at the properties of the email, check if the sender is really you. If the sender is really you, try to scan your computer, it might be infected with a malware that controls your emails. Send me a message, and also attach with it the contents of the email header, let me check on it.

I've got a Goggle Mail Acct. The box size IS bigger than Yahoo!'s but Yahoo! is more than an e-address.
Spammers will hit any e-account. Yahoo!'s SpamGuard is very good.
HotMail used to have one of the best filters, but it blocked just about EVERYTHING.

We have two computers in the house, they share the same modem (ADSL). I am trying to find out the owner of a gmail address. Any ideas on how? All I get is google.?
To find the actual owner? The only way is to search for that email address and follow the path if they have used it else where ... ie, you find a website with that email address sited that gives a user name they use, then search that user name, which could lead you to their myspace ... but as far as finding out who it is with no extra info, would be impossible. Gmail isn't an anonymous email server.
If you got an email from them though, look in your email source code .. you'll get their IP address ... but I'm not sure exactly what you objective is of finding this info ... so not sure of where to lead you.

Dude, they have step by step instructions if you go to the Options screen. It totally depends on which version of Outlook you have, so there's no point in me trying to tell you. You've got to actually tell it which version you have and then

I would allow cookies for these sites. If you are using IE6 you can goto tools---internet options----privacy----allow and enter each of the sites ending url. So for hotmail, do "hotmail.com" or yahoo do "yahoo.com"

This is done be right going to control panal and selecting the internet setting or some time called the internet options open it and then click on the privacy at the top of that screen. If its not set at medium put it on med and apply it. also you need to clear out all files on your pc thats tempary internt files thats stores web pages and pictures off them that contain all of the spyware and ad-ware that you get off the internet. OK to do this is on the general page click delete cookies and ok then click delete files ( which is the temp) and click all off line content then ok this will be abe to view the pages you need.
If non of this works you have a alexa virus that is in your registery. its a trojan virus that stalls a pc and you may have to re format and re install your windows. but you can get a spyware program and get rid of this sometimes.

Not to many at all and gmail is really good about having things go right to your spam box. If something shows up in your inbox and it is spam, you can mark it as spam and it will be taken directly to that box.
Reply:I just joined the other day. Unlike Yahoo on GMail you recieve absolutely no pop-up or any advertising. I also like the format better. I have already invited everyone in my Yahoo contacts to join GMail. It is a lot better than Yahoo. I am keeping my email however on Yahoo so I can keep on answering questions from people.
